About Us

Newdigate bowls green

Newdigate Bowls Club is an independent, private members' club that is open to all and is part of the sports facilities on the Brocus, an area in the centre of the village administered by the Trustees of the Newdigate Community Centre.

Our facilities include our clubhouse with mens and ladies changing rooms, excellent social facilities and ample parking.

The Club

The bowling season extends from mid-April to end September. The Club has a full programme of inter-club matches throughout the season, and participates in the Ladies Nellie Mercer and Surrey Advertiser leagues and the Men's Border League and West Surrey Bowling Association's Midweek League. There is also an extensive list of internal competitions that members can enter. In the close season (October to March), there is a programme of social events for members to enjoy.

Club History

Images of Newdigate Bowls green and club house

The Club was formed in 1990 as a result of the foresight and endeavours of a few villagers in the late 1980s that created a bowling green from a barren site. Through the efforts of the original members and those that have followed, the Club has continued to develop and flourish.

In 2001, a new clubhouse was built and the adjoining car park (on land donated by neighbours, Ibstock Brick Ltd) was added into the Brocus for use of the Bowls Club. The Club's members maintain the clubhouse, car park and all surrounding hedges. Over the years, the bowling green has been materially improved - again through the work of members, who are responsible for its maintenance - and is now regarded by many as one of the best in Surrey.
